International Summer Research Scholarship Program 2009- Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland

February 19, 2009

:

INTERNATIONAL SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM 2009 - School of Life Sciences - Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland: 6 July - 28 August 2009 (although earlier arrivals and later departures can be envisaged).

Our School offers cutting-edge research opportunities in its four institutes, i.e. the Brain Mind Institute, the Institute for Bioengineering, the Swiss Inst. for Exp. Cancer Research ISREC, and the Global Health Institute (http://sv.epfl.ch).
The Summer Research Program will give to the participating student hands-on research experience on projects in one of the research labs and special seminars/activities every Friday afternoon.

The target group of applicants are students after approximately 3 years of university training in the life sciences in their largest sense.

We seek to attract the best candidates and thus financial compensation will be provided to cover successful candidates’ living and travel expenses. Biomedical research increasingly relies on quantitative approaches and cutting edge technology. Many would agree that the future of the life sciences lies at the crossroads of biology, hard sciences (chemistry, mathematics, computer science) and engineering. The School of Life Sciences at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Lausanne, Switzerland - http://sv.epfl.ch/ was created on this premise. Capitalizing on its initial development in neuroscience (under the auspices of the Brain Mind Institute) and biotechnology (led by the Institute of Bioengineering), the School of Life Sciences continues to grow; in 2005 the Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research (ISREC) joined EPFL, and the Global Health Institute was launched. In all areas, integrated approaches spanning a range of disciplines from functional genomics to System Biology & high-tech bioengineering are emphasized.

Selection Criteria: Up to 25/30 summer research fellowships will be awarded on a competitive basis, taking into consideration several criteria including the student’s academic record, personal statement and letters of recommendation.

Additional information and the application are available online:

International Masters Program in Evolution, Ecology and Systematics, Switzerland

February 19, 2009

EES Master Program LMU Munich

Since 2007 the University of Munich (LMU) offers a 2-year, international Master program in Evolution, Ecology and Systematics (EES).

The EES Master program contains many innovative elements such as a mentoring program, integrated skills courses and individual research training. We also apply a feedback and revision system instead of simple grading. All courses are offered in English. Classes are small and students have a lot of contact to the teachers. Thanks to funding by the Volkswagen Foundation, students can apply for their own research and travel money and for money to invite international speakers.

Applications to start in October 2009 are now welcome from highly motivated students who have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in biology or a related subject.

Application deadlines: 30th of April (for non-EU students) and 30th of June (for EU-students and others who don’t need a visa to study in Germany).

For more information, please have a look at our website (http://www.eeslmu.de) or contact me by e-mail.
